Close sources confirm Hellblade 2 and Gears of War will be coming to PS5 this year

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is coming to Xbox in 2025 as well.

There is no doubt that Microsoft has boldly shown signs of gradually transforming into a third-party game publisher, as it explicitly and clearly adopts the “play for all” plan by releasing many of its own titles to competing platforms such as the PS5 and Switch, and now close sources confirm the arrival of Hellblade 2 and Gears of War on PS5 this year 2025.

Over the past period, many sources have indicated Microsoft's intention to bring more first-party titles to different platforms such as the PS5 during 2025, and although it has already confirmed the arrival of both DOOM: The Dark Ages and The Outer Worlds 2 to Sony platforms, rumors have begun to talk about more other titles, which were talking about the arrival of  Halo: The Master Chief Collection to the PS5 and the new Switch platform perhaps.

Speaking on his podcast, leaker and insider NateTheHate shared new rumors about future Xbox plans, and we can confirm at least some of them from Windowscentral's own sources close to Microsoft. Just earlier this week, Microsoft revealed that the upcoming Developer_Direct episode will feature DOOM: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight, and a mysterious fourth game that has yet to be revealed.

The episode is set to air on January 23, and will highlight what the company plans to bring to Xbox consoles throughout the year, which also includes other titles that gamers want to see more of like Avowed, The Outer Worlds 2, and Fable, if none of them are delayed at least.

The source also pointed to the company's efforts to release Xbox games on other platforms, with NateTheHate mentioning some rumors on his podcast (via Knoebel ) of games we can expect to see coming to the PS2 and Nintendo Switch 2 later this year.

According to the same source, both Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection are also set to release on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, with windowscentral's own sources confirming what was shared from this information, and it doesn't seem like Microsoft will stop there.

Former Xbox boss Phil Spencer has made it clear that there are no “red lines” when it comes to games Microsoft aims to port to other platforms, and several reports late last year suggested that any Xbox game that could make a good return on investment from moving to multiple platforms would certainly do so.

To that end, Hellblade 2, Age of Mythology, and possibly Gears of War 1 Ultimate Edition will all be released on the rival PlayStation 5 this year as well, but the source isn't sure if they'll be released on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

Through all of the above, in addition to the rumors and official statements, here Xbox will face a dilemma in order to continue and survive on two sides, one of which is how to maintain sales of its devices in light of the decrease in exclusivity of games on it, with proposed solutions, and we can summarize this through several points, the most important of which are..

Current Xbox Problems

  • Previously, exclusive games (games available only on Xbox) were the main reason people bought Xbox consoles, but when the company started releasing many of its exclusive games on other platforms such as PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, what is the value of its platforms then?

  • Although Xbox Game Pass offers a huge library of games, it has not yet been able to attract a large number of new players to buy Xbox devices, especially with the gradual increase in their prices.

  • Xbox faces stiff competition from other subscription services and cloud gaming platforms that offer a variety of options at varying prices, despite having titles released on day one.

  • A new generation of gamers now prefer to play on computers or smartphones, making home gaming consoles less important than they once were.

Suggested solutions:

  • Focus on the cloud, with Xbox Cloud Gaming being one potential solution, allowing gamers to play games on any device connected to the internet.

  • Microsoft must offer Xbox-exclusive benefits, such as enhanced games or unique controls, to attract gamers.

  • Build strong relationships with independent game developers and major publishing companies to provide exclusive or temporary content for their consoles.
